How do you set up the driver assistance systems - Kia PV5 Cargo?

The PV5 has driver assistance systems that help you while driving. They switch on by default every time you start the car. If you feel the car pulls at the steering wheel or beeps too often, you can adjust most of it yourself.

Lane assistance: the button on the steering wheel

There is one lane assistance button on the steering wheel, showing a car between two lines. It controls two functions.

  • A short press switches Lane Following Assist (LFA) on or off. This actively keeps the car between the lines. The indicator on the dashboard turns grey or green.

  • A long press switches Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) off. This only intervenes when you cross a line without indicating. The indicator turns yellow when the system is off.

  • You can also switch Lane Keeping Assist off on the screen: Vehicle settings, then Driver assistance, then Driving safety, and deselect Lane safety.

Speed limit warning based on road signs

The car reads road signs and warns you when you drive too fast. The sign flashes and you hear a chime.

  • Go to Vehicle settings, then Driver assistance, then Speed limit.

  • Choose from three settings: Speed Limit Assist (reads signs, warns you and helps you adjust your speed), Speed Limit Warning (reads signs and warns you only) or Off.

  • If you switch it off, a warning light appears on the dashboard. That is normal.

  • Driving without navigation? Select the correct country in the menu yourself, otherwise the car misreads the signs.

Driver attention warning

The car monitors two things: whether you are looking at the road and whether you are driving inattentively.

  • Go to Vehicle settings --> then Driver assistance --> then DAW to switch off the forward attention warning.

  • The warning that suggests you take a break cannot be switched off in Europe, as it is required by law.

  • If the car suggests a break, take it seriously and stop for a moment.

Good to know

  • If you switch a system off, it will be back on the next time you start the car. That is how this car works, and you cannot change it.

  • Do not change settings while driving. Bring the car to a safe stop first.

  • Even with all assistance systems off, you remain responsible for your speed and your position on the road.

Troubleshooting

  • The car steers against you when you change lanes: use your indicator. Lane Keeping Assist will not intervene if you do. To switch it off completely, press and hold the lane assistance button.

  • There is a yellow light on the dashboard: a lane assistance system or the speed limit warning is switched off. This is a notification, not a fault.

  • The car keeps beeping while you are not speeding: the sign recognition has read the wrong sign or the wrong country. Check the country setting or switch the speed limit warning off.

  • A system does not work at all: rain, snow, a dirty windscreen or a dirty camera disable these systems. They work again once the camera has a clear view.
