How to start a Ford Puma

You open and close this car using the MyWheels app.

Opening the car

  • Open the car in the app via your reservation.

Disconnecting the charging cable (if the car is plugged in)

  • Take the charging token from the glove compartment.

  • Hold it against the reader on the charging station to stop charging.

  • Make sure the car is unlocked via the app. The connector only releases when the car is unlocked.

  • Press the release button next to the charging port and pull the cable out of the car straight away.

  • Then remove the cable from the charging station.

  • Close the charging door by pressing its right-hand edge.

Storing the charging cable

  • Take the cable with you and put it back in the boot.

Starting the car and driving off

  • Get in the car.

  • Press the foot brake.

  • Press the round start button to the right of the steering wheel. The green READY light comes on in the dashboard. You will not hear an engine sound.

  • You select a gear with the stalk behind the steering wheel on the right. Keep the brake pressed and push the stalk down two positions for D (forward) or up two positions for R (reverse). There is no gear lever on the centre console.

  • The parking brake releases automatically as soon as you select D or R.

  • Release the brake to drive off.

Good to know

  • If you press the start button without pressing the brake, only the electronics switch on and you cannot drive off. Always press the foot brake first.

  • As long as the charging cable is plugged into the car, the parking brake will not release. So always remove the cable from the car before you drive off.

Trouble starting

  • Press the foot brake firmly and press the start button.

  • No engine sound? That is normal, this is an electric car. Check whether the green READY light is on.

  • Check that the charging cable is disconnected and the charging door is closed.

  • Parking brake not on? Press the P button on the end of the gear stalk, press the foot brake and try again.

  • Check that you still have an active reservation in the app.

  • Has your reservation expired and is the car blocked? Call the MyWheels helpline.
