How do I refuel or charge the car abroad?

Every MyWheels car is equipped with a fuel or charging card, which can be found in the glove compartment or the center console.

Refueling

Unfortunately, the fuel card does not work abroad. You’ll need to pay for fuel yourself, keep the receipts, and submit them for reimbursement when you return using the contact form. We’ll ensure you get your money back as quickly as possible.

Charging

The charging card for our electric cars usually works abroad. However, keep in mind that there are often fewer charging stations, so careful planning is essential. Our advice: charge the car to at least 80% before crossing the border. You can easily plan a route with charging stops using the ANWB Route Planner. If the charging card doesn’t work, you can usually start charging with a credit or debit card. You can later submit these costs for reimbursement via the contact form.

Note: If you’re going on a ski trip with MyWheels, make sure to choose a car with winter tires—you can find these by using the ‘winter tires’ filter.

Important Points for Refueling:

  • Always return fuel-powered cars with at least three-quarters of a tank.
  • Fuel cards may not work abroad. If that’s the case, submit your fuel receipts through our contact form for reimbursement.

Important Points for Charging:

  • If the battery of an electric car with a designated parking zone is below 80% at the end of your trip, connect it to a charging station. You can find charging locations in the MyWheels app. If the battery is at 80% or higher, park the car in a regular parking spot within the zone.
  • Always connect electric cars with their own parking spot to a charging station.
  • If you park the car at a charging spot during your trip, always plug it in. If you don’t, the car may be towed, and you will be responsible for the costs.
